Organization
The Steinbeis-Stiftung für Wirtschaftsförderung (StW – “Steinbeis Foundation for Economic Development“) acts as an umbrella organization for the entire Steinbeis network. Together with Steinbeis GmbH & Co. KG für Technologietransfer (also referred to as StC – “Steinbeis Limited Liability Company and Commercial Partnership for Technology Transfer” – a non-profit foundation), it is responsible for all commercial activities related to knowledge and technology transfer. The two institutions underpin the entire organization and are both headquartered in Stuttgart, south west Germany.
The StC (Directors: Prof. Dr. Heinz Trasch [Chairman], Prof. Dr. Michael Auer) encompasses almost all Steinbeis Transfer Centers, subsidiaries, and a variety of other Steinbeis enterprises, and is the backbone of the entire Steinbeis network.
Centers based at Steinbeis Forschungs- und Entwicklungszentren GmbH (Steinbeis Research and Development Centers) are specialized in market and transfer-orientated contractual and developmental research, as well as research on behalf of the network. Centers falling under Steinbeis Beratungszentren GmbH (Steinbeis Consulting Centers) act as professional advisors in the field of management consulting, expert evaluations and training. The Steinbeis University Berlin encompasses a variety of Transfer Institutes offering tangible knowledge and technology transfer via training and degree programs. Steinbeis Beteiligungs-Holding GmbH oversees Steinbeis majority holdings and several company equity holdings.
Steinbeis Immobilien-Holding GmbH is managing Steinbeis real estate.
The Board of Trustees lays down fundamental working practices for the foundation (Directors: Prof. Dr. Heinz Trasch [Chairman], Prof. Dr. Michael Auer). The Board of Trustees has 22 ordinary and 22 alternate members – representatives from trade and industry, science and academia, politics and public administration. The Board of Trustees and Committee is made up of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and six representatives. Honorary Trustee of the Steinbeis Foundation is Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Johann Löhn, who as Chairman of the Board founded and developed Steinbeis between 1983 and 2004.
